How Much Does Interior Design Cost in Pakistan?

Interior design pricing in Pakistan varies widely depending on scope, finishes and whether execution is included. This guide breaks down fee models, realistic cost ranges per square foot and the factors that quietly inflate budgets. It also explains how to compare quotations fairly.

How Much Does Interior Design Cost in Pakistan?

Cost is almost always the first question a client asks and it is also the hardest one to answer in a single sentence. Interior design in Pakistan can mean a consultation and a set of drawings, or it can mean a complete turnkey transformation including civil work, joinery, electrical rewiring, furniture and styling. Those two scopes sit at opposite ends of the price spectrum. Understanding what you are actually buying is the only way to judge whether a number is reasonable.

How Living Solutions Global Prices Interior Design Work

At Living Solutions Global we believe pricing should be transparent, itemised and tied to a defined scope. Our Interior Design and Fit Out division prepares costings that separate design fees, material allowances, execution labour and contingency so you can see exactly where every rupee goes. We do not hide margins inside vague lump sums and we do not begin work without a signed scope. Clients across Islamabad choose us because they receive a document they can question line by line, and because we deliver both the design and the execution through our interior design in Pakistan practice.

The Three Common Fee Models

The first thing to establish is how the designer charges. In Pakistan three models dominate the market.

The percentage model charges a share of the total project cost, commonly between five and fifteen percent depending on complexity and the level of supervision required. It works well for larger projects where the final scope evolves, and it aligns the designer with overall quality rather than with cutting corners.

The per square foot model charges a fixed rate against the covered area being designed. It is popular for residential work because it is easy to understand and easy to compare. Rates differ enormously depending on whether the figure covers design only or design plus delivery.

The fixed fee or lump sum model quotes one number for a clearly defined deliverable such as a full set of drawings for a three bedroom apartment. It suits clients who know precisely what they need and want no ambiguity.

Realistic Cost Bands for Residential Projects

Numbers move with the market, so treat these as planning bands rather than fixed quotations. For design consultancy only, meaning concept, layouts, drawings and material specification without execution, most credible practices in Islamabad and Lahore charge a modest per square foot rate that suits clients who already have a trusted contractor.

For a light refresh, involving paint, lighting upgrades, soft furnishing, curtains and some loose furniture, the spend per square foot is comparatively low because you are not touching structure or services.

For a mid range full fit out, including custom joinery, wardrobes, a fitted kitchen, false ceilings, upgraded electrical points and quality flooring, the figure rises substantially. This is where most family homes land.

For a premium or luxury fit out using imported finishes, engineered stone, bespoke furniture, integrated automation and specialist lighting, costs can multiply several times over the mid range band. Import duties, freight and currency movement are the main drivers here rather than labour.

Commercial and Office Costing

Commercial projects are priced differently because the requirements are technical rather than decorative. An office needs structured cabling, network points, server provision, meeting room acoustics, fire compliance and durable flooring rated for heavy traffic. Retail adds display systems, specialist lighting and branding elements. Clinics add hygiene rated surfaces and equipment coordination.

Because these elements are not optional, commercial fit out rates per square foot are often higher than basic residential work even when the visual finish looks simpler. When we scope office interior design we cost these services explicitly rather than burying them in a general allowance, which is why our numbers sometimes look higher at first glance and lower at final settlement.

What Actually Drives Your Budget Up

Several factors move cost far more than most clients expect.

Joinery is usually the largest single line in a Pakistani home fit out. Wardrobes, kitchen cabinetry, vanities, wall panelling and beds made to measure consume a large share of the budget. Choosing solid wood over engineered board, or imported hardware over local, can change the total dramatically.

Civil and service changes are the second driver. Moving a wall, relocating a bathroom, changing plumbing routes or rewiring for new lighting positions all involve breaking and rebuilding. Anything that touches concrete or embedded services is expensive.

Imported materials introduce currency risk, duty and long lead times. A single imported tile selection can shift a bathroom budget significantly compared with an excellent local equivalent.

Site condition matters too. An older property in a settled sector of Islamabad may need damp treatment, wiring replacement or roof work before decorative work can even begin. These discoveries are common and should be anticipated with a contingency of at least ten percent.

Finally, indecision costs money. Changing a finish after ordering, or revising a layout after electrical work has started, creates rework that nobody budgeted for.

Where to Spend and Where to Save

Not every element deserves equal investment. Spend generously on things that are difficult or disruptive to change later. That means electrical planning, plumbing quality, waterproofing, flooring in high traffic areas and the kitchen. Spend well on lighting because it transforms perception of a space at relatively low cost.

Save on items that can be upgraded easily. Decorative accessories, artwork, curtains, side tables and even sofas can be replaced in a few years without touching the fabric of the building. Save also by choosing quality local manufacturing over imported equivalents where performance is comparable.

How to Compare Quotations Fairly

Two quotations that differ by a large margin are usually not describing the same job. Before you compare prices, compare scopes. Does each quotation specify material brands, thicknesses, finishes and quantities? Does it include supervision? Does it include electrical and plumbing changes or list them as exclusions? Does it state a payment schedule tied to milestones? Does it carry a defined completion period and a workmanship warranty?

The cheapest number on paper often becomes the most expensive project once variations, substitutions and delays accumulate. A properly detailed quotation is itself evidence of professional capability. Our fit out services are quoted against measured drawings for exactly this reason.

Interior Design as an Investment Decision

For property owners, especially overseas Pakistanis, interior quality is not only a lifestyle choice. A well designed apartment rents faster and holds value better than a bare shell with dated fittings. Buyers respond to functional kitchens, adequate storage and good light long before they notice a feature wall. If you are approaching your property from a returns perspective, it is worth reading our perspective on real estate investment alongside your design planning.

Getting an Accurate Number for Your Space

No article can price your specific project because cost depends on your area, your condition and your ambition. What we can do is visit or review your plans, agree a scope in writing and issue a transparent itemised costing you can rely on. Contact our team and we will give you a realistic figure rather than an optimistic one.
